As we searched from Tucson to Sedona for a new home in the mid-90’s, we stopped to see the two Lyle Anderson master-planned private golf communities in North Scottsdale: Desert Highlands and Desert Mountain. We seriously considered both of these communities as offering the potential for us to build our custom home. However, we later discovered the non-golf course community of Sincuidados where we built our home.
In looking at these two subdivisions, we noted that Desert Highlands and Desert Mountain offer similar amenities but are distinguished by the density of the communities and the greater number of golf courses and tennis facilities, to name a few differences. Both offer wonderful mountain and Sonoran Desert views. Both offer golf, while Desert Mountain has 6 courses. Both offer tennis with a variety of playing surfaces. Both offer a club house with 6 club houses in Desert Mountain. Both offer outstanding fitness facilities. Both offer trails for walkers, joggers and bikers.
Desert Highlands
Desert Highlands is a smaller scale subdivision than Desert Mountain with about 560 homesites on 850 acres which provides lower density and more of a sense of an intimate community. Begun in 1983, the developer focused on maintaining the magnificent views of the Sonoran Desert and views of Pinnacle Peak when building Desert Highlands.
Desert Highlands is centrally located with shopping centers, restaurants, medical facilities and schools in close proximity. It is a wonderful subdivision with friendly staff and a variety of recreational amenities.
